NLA PARTS RESCUE

The part is gone. The geometry doesn't have to be.

Mail us the original — or we bring the scanners to your facility. Metrology-rated capture, clean CAD rebuilt from measured geometry, and the agreed features delivered to ±0.05 mm.

Direct. Measurable. Built for parts nobody sells anymore.

One dead bracket should not park the whole build

Discontinued trim. A one-year-only mount. A casting nobody stocks. A bracket that exists only on the car in front of you. When the replacement is no longer available, guessing from photos burns time and material. NLA Parts Rescue turns physical parts into usable digital geometry. We scan the real surfaces, rebuild the model around the features that control fit, and hand back files ready for the next step in your workflow.

Two ways to get it scanned

01

Mail-in scan-to-CAD

Ship us the original with a prepaid tracked label; we capture it in the shop and rebuild clean CAD. From $150 + shipping, 5–10 business days.

02

On-site scanning

We bring both scanners to your shop, facility, or garage — equipment plus operator, for assemblies too big to move. Currently weekends only (Sat–Sun), by appointment only. Priced per capture day; a representative day runs $1,500–$3,000 plus travel.

Mail-in: what you get

01

Scan-driven CAD. The model is built from measured geometry, not eyeballed from a photo.

02

±0.05 mm on agreed features. Accessible, accepted features are checked against the scan data before delivery.

03

Files you can use. Delivered formats: STEP (AP214) and STL. Raw scan data is available as a paid add-on quoted per job; when the scan data itself is the agreed deliverable, it is included in the quoted price.

04

Your original returned. Free tracked return shipping is included in the service price, to the original order address unless an alternative is approved in writing.

05

A straight answer up front. If the part cannot be captured reliably — or should not be reproduced — we will say so before the work begins.

The right scanner for the part

NLA Parts Rescue's NimbleTrack optical tracker on a tripod in the shop, powered on with a green status light
Our NimbleTrack tracker set up in the shop. Wireless and marker-free — the kit is built to travel for on-site jobs.

For small-to-mid-size parts, the SCANOLOGY NimbleTrack gives us wireless, marker-free optical tracking with system accuracy rated up to 0.025 mm. It is quick to set around brackets, housings, adapters, and other detailed components.

For large parts and assemblies, the TrackScan Sharp-S carries the same rated accuracy up to 0.025 mm while extending tracking distance to 8.5 m and a high-precision measurement volume to 135 m³. That means we can capture far more than tabletop pieces without constantly moving the tracker.

What that means for your file — Our delivered CAD tolerance is ±0.05 mm against accepted scan data on accessible, agreed inspection features. Scanner rating and delivered CAD tolerance are different numbers; the second one is the promise that applies to your job.

On-site scanning — the rig comes to you

Some parts cannot, or should not, be shipped: the vehicle in the bay that can't be disassembled, tooling and fixtures bolted to the floor, machinery mid-production, collections of parts spread across a shop. For those, we come to you as an equipment-plus-operator package — both scanners, the workstation, and the know-how. For now, on-site work is available weekends only (Saturday–Sunday), by appointment only.

What's included

  • Scanners matched to the job — NimbleTrack for detail work, TrackScan Sharp-S for larger assemblies and installed equipment.
  • Travel, setup, and capture days scheduled within a weekend window, including off-hours if your shop can't stop.
  • Raw scan processing, cleanup, and CAD rebuild — the same ±0.05 mm promise on agreed features as mail-in.
  • Deliverables per the written scope: STEP and STL files, with raw scan data available.
  • Delivered files work the same as mail-in jobs — same single-buyer license, same file traceability, same safety-critical policy.

What you provide

  • Safe access to the items and adequate working clearance around them.
  • Power for the processing workstation and reasonable working conditions.
  • Parts cleaned and prepared; we flag transparent, reflective, or otherwise hostile surfaces during the scope call.
  • A point of contact for the capture days — someone who knows what needs measuring and can answer fit questions.
  • If the items, access, or conditions differ materially from the agreed scope, we reschedule or re-scope before lenses go on.
Priced by the day

On-site engagements are priced by the capture day — you choose how many days your project needs — quoted per job and booked by appointment. A representative day runs $1,500–$3,000 plus travel and per diem, depending on scope, deliverables, and location. For now, capture days are booked on weekends only (Saturday–Sunday); that day-rate pricing carries straight over if weekday availability opens up later. We confirm the day rate, day count, travel, and the delivery target in writing before anything packs a flight case.

  3. Ship it safely. After approval, we email you a prepaid tracked shipping label (+ shipping added to your price). Pack the clean part so it cannot move; declare its full value when you order so the label carries proper coverage. Never ship before we approve the scope in writing.
  4. Arrival check. We document visible condition and compare the part with the approved scope before scanning.
  5. Scan and rebuild. We capture the geometry, clean the data, rebuild the CAD, and verify the agreed accessible features against the accepted scan.
  6. Files back. Part back.Digital files arrive by secure email link, with Dropbox available on request. Free tracked return shipping is included in the service price.

Best fit for the service

  • Hard-to-find parts. Discontinued, no-longer-available, obsolete, or one-year-only components.
  • Rigid geometry. Brackets, mounts, tabs, covers, housings, spacers, adapters, flanges, bezels, and similar parts.
  • Known interfaces. Projects where you can identify the bolt pattern, mounting face, mating edge, centerline, or other features that control fit.
  • Reproduction and repair workflows. CAD for machining, fabrication, additive manufacturing, casting patterns, inspection, or archive use — subject to the customer validating the production method and end use.

Work we cannot accept

  • We refuse weapons, controlled items, stolen property, or work you are not authorized to reproduce.
  • We may decline parts that are unstable, hazardous, contaminated, flexible, highly reflective, transparent, severely damaged, incomplete, or inaccessible. If a workable preparation or alternate capture method exists, we will quote it before proceeding.

Safety-critical parts — case-by-case review

Contact us before shipping. Safety-critical parts are reviewed case by case. This includes brakes, steering, suspension, restraints, pressure vessels, load-bearing structural parts, and anything whose failure could reasonably cause injury, death, or major property damage.

Before approval, the customer must disclose the intended end use in writing and sign an assumption-of-risk and indemnification agreement. For any accepted safety-critical job, the customer assumes all risks of manufacture, installation, and end use and agrees, to the extent permitted by law, to indemnify and hold us harmless from related claims, losses, damages, and costs. Delivered files are marked and licensed as "dimensional reference only — not validated manufacturing data." No manufacturing license is granted for safety-critical applications. The CAD recreates measurable geometry only; it is not engineering validation, material certification, stress analysis, or approval to manufacture or install the part.

Free-scan trade: trade the fee for rights

Some NLA parts are worth preserving for the wider market. If your part qualifies, we may waive the scanning/CAD service fee in exchange for agreed rights to keep and commercialize the scan-derived model.

  • You keep the original. The physical part remains yours and is returned under the agreed shipping terms.
  • The rights are written down first. We state what files you receive and what rights we receive before you ship.
  • Selection is not automatic. Demand, condition, completeness, geometry, and commercial usefulness all matter.
  • Shipping is split. We provide the prepaid tracked inbound label at our cost for accepted trades; we pay tracked return shipping.

Ask about the trade — Send "FREE-SCAN" with photos, dimensions, application, condition, and any part numbers. We will tell you whether it qualifies — no guessing and no surprise rights grab.

Every delivered file is traceable to its buyer

Each delivered STEP and STL file is watermarked as part of our standard handoff. We embed the buyer name and order ID in the file metadata and add a tiny, unique geometry fingerprint — such as a micro-feature or small embossed serial — in a non-critical area like an underside surface or the inside of a bore. The fingerprint is placed away from agreed fit and inspection features and is designed to survive ordinary format conversion. The watermark does not change the promised tolerance on agreed features. It protects the single-buyer license and gives us a practical way to trace a file if it later appears in an unauthorized resale or file library. It is identification, not digital rights management: the file remains usable for the manufacturing rights stated in your quote.

Frequently asked questions

Can you scan on-site at my facility?

Yes — currently weekends only (Saturday–Sunday), by appointment only. We travel with both scanners as an equipment-plus-operator package, priced by the capture day with travel quoted up front. A representative day runs $1,500–$3,000 plus travel and per diem depending on scope and location, and you choose how many days the project needs. Select "On-site scanning" on the quote form and include your location.

How accurate is the finished CAD?

We promise ±0.05 mm against accepted scan data on accessible, agreed inspection features. Before work starts, we identify anything affected by wear, damage, coatings, flexibility, or blocked line of sight.

Why is my name and order ID in the file?

Every STEP/STL delivery carries buyer and order metadata plus a tiny unique geometry fingerprint in a non-critical area. It ties the file to the licensed buyer if an unauthorized copy is resold. It does not interfere with agreed fit surfaces or normal manufacturing use.

Can I manufacture parts from the file?

For ordinary, non-safety-critical work, yes — within the single-buyer, non-transferable license stated in your quote. You may use and modify the delivered files and manufacture from them for your own personal, internal, or commercial work. You may not resell, share, sublicense, post, or distribute the digital files unless the quote grants that right. For accepted safety-critical work, no manufacturing license is granted; the files are licensed as dimensional reference only.

Do I get the raw scan?

Raw scan data is available as a paid add-on, quoted per job. If the scan data itself is the agreed deliverable, it is included in the quoted price. The quote lists every included file type before the part ships.

Will the CAD automatically fit my vehicle or assembly?

No. We recreate measurable geometry from the supplied part. Wear, deformation, repairs, coatings, missing pieces, and variation in the mating assembly can affect fit. You are responsible for prototype fit checks and production validation.

How long does it take?

Standard mail-in turnaround is 5–10 business days from receipt and inspection. Rush service is +50% when capacity is available and confirmed in writing. On-site delivery targets are set in writing per engagement.

What if the part is lost or damaged?

Pack the part so it cannot move and ship it with the prepaid tracked label we provide after approval. Transit claims stay with the shipping party and carrier. Our in-shop responsibility and cap are stated in the service terms below.

Tell us what you have. Clear photos and a few honest measurements are enough to start — for weekend on-site work, add your location and the weekend dates that would work.

We reply from quotes@nlapartsrescue.com within 1 business day. Have photos ready (overall, front, back, sides, ruler in frame) to attach in your reply.

If the part exists, we can measure it. If it can be measured, it does not have to disappear.

Send photos and the fit-critical features — or tell us where to bring the scanners. We will tell you whether it is a mail-in job or an on-site weekend, what it costs, and what you will receive before any box leaves your shop.

Service terms

Have local counsel review these terms before publishing. Liability limits, intellectual-property language, and eBay service-listing rules can vary by jurisdiction and platform.

Scope, price, and timing

No job starts until the written quote identifies the part, tier, price, included file types, fit-critical features, tolerance exceptions, shipping plan, and delivery target. Standard turnaround is 5–10 business days from receipt and inspection. Rush service is +50% when confirmed in writing. Delays caused by missing information, changed scope, part condition, or approval time move the delivery target.

On-site engagements

On-site work is currently available weekends only (Saturday–Sunday) and is booked by appointment only. It is priced by the capture day — the customer chooses how many days the engagement includes — with the day count, day rate, travel, lodging, and per diem all confirmed in writing before travel. The customer provides safe access to the items, adequate working clearance, power for the processing workstation, and prepared items; we may postpone or re-scope if conditions are unsafe or differ materially from the written scope. Scan processing and CAD rebuild happen after the visit, with the delivery target stated in writing. The accuracy, review and remedy, ownership and license, file-watermarking, and safety-critical terms apply to on-site work the same as mail-in.

Shipping and physical-part risk

After written approval, we provide a prepaid tracked inbound shipping label; its cost is added to the quoted price (+ shipping). The customer declares the part's full value when ordering so the label carries proper declared value and insurance, and handles safe packing. Free tracked return shipping is included in the service price and goes to the original order address unless an alternative is approved in writing. There is no maximum declared value, but the customer must declare the part's full value and insure the inbound shipment accordingly. Transit risk and carrier claims remain with the shipping party. We document visible condition on arrival and use reasonable care while the part is in our possession. We are not responsible for pre-existing damage, corrosion, contamination, brittleness, hidden defects, or failure caused by normal handling of a compromised part. If loss or damage is caused solely by us in our possession, liability is limited to the lower of documented fair replacement value or the declared value we accepted in writing. No lost profit, downtime, fabrication cost, consequential damage, or sentimental value.

Accuracy, review, and remedy

The ±0.05 mm promise applies to accessible, agreed features measured against accepted scan data — not hidden geometry, unknown design intent, or fit on an unmeasured assembly. Review files within 14 calendar days. If an agreed feature misses tolerance, the first remedy is CAD correction; if correction is not practical, the maximum refund is the service fee paid. Manufacturing, tooling, installation, and third-party costs are not covered.

Ownership, license, and file watermarking

The physical original stays yours. You confirm that you own it or have authority to have it scanned and reproduced, and that the job does not violate another party's rights. For a normal paid job, the delivered files carry a perpetual, single-buyer, non-transferable license. You may use, modify, and manufacture from them for your own personal, internal, or commercial work. You may not resell, share, sublicense, publish, upload, or distribute the digital files unless the quote grants that right. We retain authorship of our CAD work, raw scan data, setup data, process files, and reusable know-how. We will not publish, sell, or share your customer-specific delivered model without written permission, except to provide the service or comply with law. This manufacturing permission does not apply to accepted safety-critical work; the safety-critical terms below control. Every delivered STEP and STL includes the buyer name and order ID in file metadata plus a tiny unique geometry fingerprint in a non-critical area. The geometry mark is designed to remain identifiable through ordinary file conversion. It stays clear of agreed fit and inspection features and does not change the ±0.05 mm promise. If a file appears in an unauthorized resale or library, the marks let us identify the licensed buyer. Free-scan trade jobs use the separate rights stated in their written trade agreement.

Safety-critical work and right to refuse

Safety-critical parts are reviewed case by case. This includes brakes, steering, suspension, restraints, pressure vessels, load-bearing structural parts, and anything whose failure could reasonably cause injury, death, or major property damage. Before approval, the customer must state the intended end use in writing and sign an assumption-of-risk and indemnification agreement. The CAD recreates measurable geometry only; it is not engineering validation, material certification, stress analysis, fitment approval, roadworthiness, legal compliance, production validation, or approval to manufacture or install the part. We may refuse or stop work that is unsafe, unlawful, misrepresented, outside capability, or materially different from the approved scope. If declined after receipt and before scanning, we return the part using tracked shipping at our expense. Work already completed may be deducted from a refund when scope or condition was misrepresented.

Scan-to-CAD recreates measurable geometry. It does not certify material, strength, fatigue life, legal compliance, roadworthiness, or fitness for a particular use.
